The esteemed football figure has made clear that he is not seeking a return to football management, explaining that it would be tough to match the higher calling he encountered as England’s manager.

The former coach indicated his plan to dedicate his efforts toward supporting the youth and countering what he called a pervasive negative narrative presently found in the country.

Embracing New Avenues Outside of The Sport

During a broadcast discussion, Southgate was asked about speculation linking him with available jobs in the English football and abroad.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he replied. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

Dedication to Role Models

Leading up to the publication of his forthcoming publication, his new work on leadership, Southgate stated that he is highly enthusiastic about setting examples for young people, utilizing experiences from his time as head coach of the national side from 2016 and 2024, as well as his personal family life.

He feels that his time managing the squad, during which the team shifted from being strongly criticized to broadly loved, holds broader applications.

“We had a huge disconnect with the public when we started,” he noted. “People saw us as high-ego players but we were able to turn that around. I saw the power that the team had to bring people together of every community.”

Family Life and Guiding Young People

Speaking from his experience as a father, Southgate remarked: “Every parent aims to provide a solid foundation, yet there comes a time when children stop heeding parental advice. I’ve faced this at home, just like others, and I believe this area is critically important.”

He added: “A downbeat tone surrounds the nation now, and it’s essential to provide hope and advice to the younger generation. While talent abounds, accessing suitable mentors and peer networks is crucial, since these factors heavily influence lifelong outcomes.”

Unity Over Discord

The former manager asserted that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the societal attention often emphasizes division.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he stated. “Economically lots of places are in tough situations now and that’s going to prompt desires for change. But I have seen the ability to unite the country. I saw during Covid people doing shopping for the neighbours and that’s when we as a nation are at our best, when we’ve been pushed into a corner and come out and shown resilience.”

Southgate’s forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is scheduled to present further insights on management and national identity drawn from his distinguished professional journey.
